Sobering Facts About HIV/AIDS

Why do we still Dine Out? Why?

According to the most recent data from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the UN Report on AIDS, there are an estimated 1.2 million people living with HIV/AIDS in the U.S. – the highest level ever.

Estimates suggest that at least one third of all new HIV infections in the U.S. are among those younger than 29, and that the majority of young people are infected sexually.

Approximately 25-30% of people infected with HIV do not know it.

About half of the 1.2 million people living with HIV in the U.S. are not receiving medial care.

Aren't these facts upsetting and shocking?

They should be. But, we all can still do something - the fight is not over. Let these sobering statistics energize you and remind you WHY we are all still committed to the fight against HIV/AIDS!

I often wonder how these younger people would view safe sex if they had seen the majority of their friends wither and waste and die a horrible death at much to young an age to die. As a long term hiv survivor I am often haunted by those hollowed out listless faces that had replaced those cheerful smiling ones and think if only we had known we would have protected not only our own lives but those of other. This never would have reached pandemic proportions.
